The Beginning

Our History

In 2004, Hastings Hanshaw and Collin Kennedy founded Hanshaw Kennedy, LLP in Frisco, Texas, starting with little more than determination and a commitment to providing exceptional, results-oriented legal representation. Undeterred by limited resources, they built a reputation for winning high-stakes litigation cases, quickly becoming the trusted choice for businesses in North Texas. With the addition of John Hafen as a partner, the firm expanded its capabilities to meet the growing legal needs of the community.

Today, Hanshaw Kennedy Hafen serves Dallas, Collin, Denton, Tarrant, and surrounding counties with a team of eight skilled attorneys dedicated to delivering efficient, effective solutions for businesses and individuals.

Our Attorneys

Meet Our Attorneys

Our team of skilled attorneys combines deep legal knowledge with a passion for client service. Discover the professionals who will stand by your side, offering personalized solutions and unwavering support for every legal challenge you face.

To speak directly with one of our attorneys about your legal matter, please schedule a consultation. During this meeting, we’ll review your questions and discuss your case in detail. To arrange a consultation, you can either call our office at 972-731-6500 or complete the contact form on our website.

Our firm charges for all initial consultations on new legal matters. The consultation fee varies depending on the type of legal issue, typically ranging from $150 to $350. Please note that if you decide to retain our firm for representation, the consultation fee will be applied toward your retainer.

Our firm covers a wide range of practice areas, including commercial litigation, business law, healthcare law, estate planning, catastrophic injury, and divorce and family law. For a complete list of our services, please visit the Practice Areas page on our website.

Our firm establishes retainer agreements with clients for each matter requiring counsel. The retainer agreement details the terms of our relationship, including the retainer amount, hourly rates, billing schedule, document retention, and scope of work. We begin work on a case upon receiving the signed agreement and retainer payment.

Each month, we provide clients with detailed invoices, which include the date, timekeeper, time spent, and description of legal services provided, along with any expenses covered on behalf of the client. Retainer funds are applied to the invoice balance, with any remaining amount due immediately. Invoices are emailed directly, and if the retainer balance drops below a certain level, we may request additional funds via email.

Certain matters, such as entity formation and estate planning, may be billed on a flat-fee basis, as agreed upon by both parties. Any contingency fee arrangements must be approved by the firm’s managing partner.

Our firm adheres to Texas law, which protects all communications between a lawyer and a potential client made for the purpose of obtaining legal advice, even if the attorney is not formally retained. For instance, any information shared during a consultation with our attorneys is safeguarded under attorney-client privilege. Open communication with your attorney is vital to ensure effective representation and allow you to fully benefit from the legal system.

As a standard practice, our attorneys may share information about your case with other firm attorneys or staff as necessary to support your matter, unless you instruct us otherwise.
